Upcoming Group Events 

We plan regular group events including Friday Fieldtrips, Full Moon Paddles, and Camp and Paddles. These group outings are open to paddlers with their own kayaks and gear and to those who need to rent from us! Stay tuned for new event postings as trips get planned.

Thursday, August 6th, Noon- Mississippi to Little Rabbit Lake

This paddle is part of our Cuyuna weekend. Join us on the Mississippi! We’ll start at Trommald Landing, where we left off on our Pine River to the Mississippi journey last year (for those of you who were there). After floating downriver a few miles, we will take the channel into Little Rabbit Lake and paddle across the lake to the public access in Riverton. Trip is approx 5-6 miles, 2-3 hours. Add extra time for shuttling.

Little Rabbit lake was part of a historically important trade route. By using portages and traversing lakes and streams in the area the Ojibwe people, early traders, and trappers were able to shorten the overall upstream Mississippi River route by eleven miles. We’ll meet at noon at the end at the Riverton/Little Rabbit Lake access point to drop cars, consolidate, and set shuttles. Then we will head up to the start at the Trommald landing. Expect to help give a ride on one end and get a ride on the other.

August 5-9th, 2026- Cuyuna Mine Pits Summer Trip

Our Summer vacation to the Cuyuna Mine Pit Lakes area will be August 5-9th. We hope you can join us for a day, two days or 5 days! Feel free to meet up with us if you are up with your own gear. We'd love to see you there. We will set places and times for group paddles each day.

Please note: Overnight accommodations, transportation, meals, etc. are all up to you. We just schedule paddles. We will be staying at the Cuyuna State Recreation Area campground. There are other lodging options in the area. Be sure to get your reservations early!

Update as of June 14th: we are full for kayak rentals. But there are other options for rentals in the area. 

Here is a tentative schedule for the weekend, subject to change. We will update with more details as we get closer.

Wednesday 8/5- We will be hiking/biking in the area and setting up camp. Evening Meet-up for other early arrivers at Portsmouth Beach. 7 pm

Thursday 8/6- River Trip! Our current plan is to put in at Trommald landing on the Mississippi and get out at the Little Rabbit Lake Access (5-6 miles). See event post above. RSVP to booking@twincitieskayaking.com

People can paddle as a group or on their own. Take it easy, go at your own pace and finish when you are ready  If you made arrangements to rent from us, we will arrange an end meeting time or plan when we get there. Bring a lunch and/or beverages for yourself to spend a couple of hours on the water.

Friday evening: Evening paddle at Pennington Chain, 6:30 PM. This is the same put-in as Saturday morning. There are plenty of places to explore and a lovely spot for an evening paddle.  We will park and put in here: https://goo.gl/maps/1Q5AXbrMJXoMqdgV7

Saturday 8/8- 11:30 AM Meet at Pennington Mine. This lake connects to several others. We will put in at the lot here: https://goo.gl/maps/1Q5AXbrMJXoMqdgV7

People can paddle as a group or on their own. The group likes to stop for a break/swim at a sandy spot along the way. Self-guided so take it easy, go at your own pace and finish when you are ready  If you are renting, we will arrange an end meeting time/plan when we get there. Bring a lunch and/or beverages to be out a couple of hours.

Saturday evening- Potluck 6:30 PM at Portsmouth Campground
